AASS is an aspiring Recovery Community Organization (RCO) providing culturally specific resources to meet the unique needs of African Americans living with Substance Use Disorder in the Twin Cities Area. While rates of addiction seem to be the same in years past, a 2018 survey from SAMHSA shows that there is a rise in African American young adults experiencing Serious Mental Illness, with more than half receiving no treatment whatsoever.
Community organizations such as AASS that can address mental health and the co-occurrence of SUD, then, are vital for bridging the gulf Black, Indigenous, People of Color face in receiving support pre and post-treatment. The nonprofit offers services such as:
Taking the first step toward recovery begins with understanding your needs. We connect individuals with trusted professionals who provide comprehensive chemical health assessments to evaluate substance use and determine the best treatment options.
Your mental well-being is just as important as your physical health. We help individuals find qualified mental health professionals who can provide thorough evaluations and connect them with tailored therapeutic solutions.
A secure place to live is essential for recovery. We connect individuals with organizations that offer housing assistance, helping them find supportive living arrangements tailored to their needs.
During moments of crisis, having access to the right help is critical. While we don’t provide direct crisis intervention, we can connect you with trusted 24-hour hotlines and emergency services to ensure you receive immediate support.
We understand that accessibility is key. Our mobile chemical health assessments allow you to receive evaluations at a location that works best for you, whether it’s at home, a community center, or our facility.
Join our weekly gatherings where individuals from all recovery pathways come together to share stories, support one another, and foster hope. These inclusive meetings are open to everyone seeking connection and encouragement.
Our harm reduction programs provide tools and education to minimize risks associated with substance use. From naloxone kits to practical resources, we empower individuals to make safer, more informed decisions.
Our community violence education initiatives aim to create safer environments by addressing the root causes of violence, raising awareness, and promoting preventive actions through workshops and outreach programs.
Sometimes, the best support comes from someone who’s been in your shoes. Our peer-to-peer program connects you with individuals who understand your journey and can provide encouragement, empathy, and direction.
In moments of uncertainty or danger, you don’t have to face it alone. Our crisis hotline is available 24/7, offering immediate assistance, support, and resources to help you through the toughest times.
Our organization truly believes that by working together, we can save more lives than ever before.
